Renal Replacement treatment for end Stage Renal Failure - the Role of capd

چکیده
Before discussing clinical application and its complications, it is extremely important to have an understanding of the relevant peritoneal anatomy and physiology. In essence PD involves the transport of solutes and water across a ‘membrane’ that separates two fluid containing compartments: 1. Blood in peritoneal capillaries, which contains uremic toxins 2. Dialysis solution in the peritoneal cavity, which contains sodium, chloride, lactate and dextrose. Peritoneal membrane is a heterogeneous, heteroporous, semipermeable membrane with relatively complex anatomy and physiology. AnAtomy And PhysIoloGy of Pd Peritoneal membrane is composed of two layers, parietal peritoneum (about 10 % of total) covering the inner surface of the abdominal wall, and visceral peritoneum (about 90% fig. 1 : Movement of ESRD patients from one form of renal replacement therapy (RRT) to another. Continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis(CAPD) is a well-known model of renal replacement therapy for end-stage renal disease patients in developed countries. This model of treatment has widely been used in our country in recent years. The present study was undertaken to investigate the efficacy of CAPD in Iran, patient population, medical and surgical complications and the etiolog...
متن کاملContinuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis—a guide to imaging appearances and complications
OBJECTIVES The aim of this article is to review and illustrate the typical imaging findings for a patient on continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis (CAPD) and its complications, examining the uses and limitations of multimodality imaging. BACKGROUND CAPD is a commonly and increasingly used method of renal replacement therapy in end-stage renal failure (ESRF). From the set-up and insertion ...

Introduction: Since, therapeutic programs have important effect on the life of ESRD (End Stage Renal Disease) patients, self-assessment of the patient from his/her health status should become an integrated part of his/her medical care. Hence, evaluation of the quality of life would attain an important stance. The determination of health related quality of life (HRQoL) in each group of patients ...
متن کاملPeritonitis outcomes in patients with HIV and end-stage renal failure on peritoneal dialysis: a prospective cohort study
BACKGROUND Few studies have investigated the management of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)-associated end-stage renal failure particularly in low-resource settings with limited access to renal replacement therapy. We aimed to evaluate the effects of HIV infection on continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis (CAPD)-associated peritonitis outcomes and technique failure in highly active antiret...
متن کاملOral pefloxacin in the treatment of CAPD peritonitis.
Continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis (CAPD), a widely used replacement therapy for end stage renal failure, is frequently complicated by bacterial peritonitis. The infecting organisms are mainly staphylococci and gram negative aerobes. Pefloxacin is a fluorinated quinolone with good in-vitro activity against these pathogens. The objective of this open non comparative study is to determine ...
متن کاملEpidemiological Characteristics and Causes of End-stage Renal Disease in Hemodialysis Patients
Background and aims: Hemodialysis (HD) is considered as the main method of renal replacement therapy (RRT) for end-stage renal disease (ESRD) patients in many countries including Iran. Given the limited number of epidemiological studies in this regard at the provincial level across the country, the present study aimed to describe the demographic and clinical characteristics of ESRD patie...
